We assessed the fabric.
We chose Hydrocarbon. We understood what this meant.

The science

The difference between water
and solvent on your fabric.

Water ← Drag left
100% waterIrreversible

On drying, the fibre contracts — but not to its original shape. Shrinkage and structural damage cannot be undone.

75% waterEmbroidery damage

Zari, zardozi and sequins contract at different rates. Borders pucker. Stones loosen. Damage is now permanent.

50% waterColour bleed

Dye molecules migrate as the fibre swells. Often invisible until the fabric dries completely.

25% waterFibre swells

The fibre absorbs water and expands in diameter. Weave tension changes across the entire fabric.

0% waterPenetration

Water molecules enter directly into the silk fibre structure. Entry begins immediately on contact.

Solvent
Water
Drag right → Solvent
100% solventUnchanged

The fibre is clean. Structurally identical to how it arrived. Embroidery intact. This is why dry cleaning exists.

75% solventColour intact

Colour molecules bonded into the fibre remain completely undisturbed. The silk exits the same colour it entered.

50% solventClean dissolution

Oils and contamination dissolve into the solvent and are carried away. The fibre is untouched.

25% solventNo swelling

The fibre diameter stays exactly unchanged. Weave tension is completely preserved throughout.

0% solventSurface action

Solvent surrounds the silk fibre from outside. It never penetrates the fibre structure at any point.

"This is why dry cleaning exists. Not as a premium option.
As the only safe choice for silk, embroidery and structure."

The expertise

Hydrocarbon or Perc.
The difference matters.
Here is how we choose.

The gentler method

Hydrocarbon

Petroleum-based solvent — preferred for delicate fabrics

Hydrocarbon dissolves oils and surface contamination without penetrating the fibre deeply. The safest choice for any garment where preserving colour, lustre, texture and embellishment is non-negotiable. Lower evaporation temperature means less heat stress on delicate constructions.

Used for
Silk sarees Banarasi & Kanjivaram Chiffon & Georgette Bridal lehenga Zari & Zardozi Velvet Embroidered couture Fine cashmere

Our first choice for delicate fabrics. Chosen when preservation matters more than cleaning power.

The powerful method

Perchloroethylene

Chlorinated solvent — chosen when cleaning efficacy must lead

Perc penetrates fabric more deeply, making it more effective against heavy soiling, oil-based stains and ground-in contamination. The professional standard for structured tailoring and formal wool. Chosen only after fabric assessment confirms suitability.

Used for
Wool suits & blazers Structured sherwanis Heavily soiled garments Formal trousers Overcoats Corporate formal wear

The professional standard for structured garments and heavy soiling. Never applied without assessment.

What we clean

Every fabric.
Its own protocol.

Banarasi & Kanjivaram Silk — The Swiss Laundry
बनारसी & कांजीवरम Banarasi & Kanjivaram Silk Saree · Blouse · Dupatta

The most revered silks in India. Zari borders, intricate weaves and natural dyes that water would bleed instantly. Every piece is colour-tested before cleaning and handled flat throughout.

Method chosen at assessment Hydrocarbon dry cleaning

Colour-fastness tested before every cycle. Zari border assessed individually.

Chiffon & Georgette — The Swiss Laundry
शिफॉन & जॉर्जेट Chiffon & Georgette Saree · Kurti · Dress · Dupatta

The lightest and most unforgiving of fabrics. Any heat or mechanical stress destroys them permanently. Reduced temperature, reduced pressure, minimal cycle time.

Method chosen at assessment Hydrocarbon — reduced parameters

Handled flat throughout. Never tumbled. Lowest possible heat.

Bridal Lehenga — The Swiss Laundry
ब्राइडल लहंगा Bridal Lehenga Lehenga · Blouse · Dupatta set

The most complex garment we receive. Zari, zardozi, sequins, stones, mirrors — each embellishment type requires a different protocol. Your explicit approval required before proceeding.

Method chosen at assessment Hydrocarbon dry cleaning

Individual assessment mandatory. Explicit approval required.

Sherwani — The Swiss Laundry
शेरवानी Sherwani Sherwani · Jacket · Bandhgala · Achkan

Structured, lined, often heavily embroidered. Collar, chest, shoulders and embroidery each handled separately. We never flat-press a sherwani.

Method chosen at assessment Hydrocarbon or Perc — assessed per piece

Pressing uses shaped forms. Collar and embroidery handled separately.

Wool & Cashmere — The Swiss Laundry
ऊन & कश्मीर Wool & Cashmere Suit · Blazer · Sweater · Coat · Shawl

Water causes wool to felt and shrink irreversibly. Even a single wash can permanently alter the cut of a tailored suit. Cashmere is even more vulnerable.

Method chosen at assessment Perc or Hydrocarbon — by soil level

Never agitated. Flat-dried on shaped forms. Suit canvas preserved.

Designer & Couture — The Swiss Laundry
डिज़ाइनर & कॉउचर Designer & Couture All garment types

Garments by India's and the world's most celebrated designers arrive regularly. We do not name them. Each piece is treated as if it cannot be replaced — because it cannot.

Method chosen at assessment Assessed individually — no standard protocol

Pre-cleaning consultation available. Individual assessment mandatory.

Velvet — The Swiss Laundry
मखमल Velvet Sherwani · Jacket · Evening wear

Pile crushing is permanent and invisible until pressing. Velvet must never be flat-pressed. Steam finishing on a vertical frame, pile brushed in direction before and after cleaning.

Method chosen at assessment Hydrocarbon dry cleaning

Steam-finished vertically only. Pile direction maintained throughout.

Leather & Suede — The Swiss Laundry
लेदर & साबर Leather & Suede Jacket · Belt · Shoes · Bag

Leather needs conditioning after cleaning; suede needs nap restoration. Each piece assessed for colour, finish type and hardware before any process begins.

Method chosen at assessment Specialist leather protocol

Conditioning and nap restoration included. Hardware protected.

Cotton & Linen Formal — The Swiss Laundry
कॉटन & लिनन फ़ॉर्मल Cotton & Linen Formal Formal shirt · Kurta · Trouser

Dry cleaning delivers a crisper finish, longer-lasting press and no shrinkage risk in formal-cut pieces where fit is precise.

Method chosen at assessment Perc or wet cleaning — by garment and soil

Dry cleaning delivers superior press on formal-cut pieces.

Nothing moves without
being fully understood.

Every garment receives a full assessment before any process begins — fabric composition, colour stability, embellishment type and previous treatments. The assessment and the cleaning method are one decision, not two.

No solvent is chosen
by default.

Hydrocarbon or Perc is decided per garment, every time, based on fabric assessment. A dry cleaner that uses only one solvent for everything is not choosing a method. They are applying a convenience.

Every garment passes
two pairs of eyes.

The person who cleans is never the person who inspects. A dedicated QC team member checks stain resolution, colour uniformity, fabric integrity and finish quality before any garment moves to pressing.

The Swiss Standard · Est. 2013

"Correctly dry cleaned garments can retain their original quality through fifty or more cleaning cycles.

The key word is correctly."

The Swiss Laundry · Kolkata · Est. 2013

Results vary by fabric type, garment construction and embellishment. Assessment at intake determines the correct method for each piece.

We specialise in designer garments.

From Indian couture to international fashion houses — each piece assessed individually, cleaned to its own protocol.

Some garments that arrive at our facility are over fifty years old.

Heirloom pieces, vintage textiles, garments that belong to family history.

Serving Kolkata since 2013.

Over 1,50,000 customers across dry cleaning, laundry, carpet care and stain removal.

Every garment goes through quality check measures before it returns to you.

Stain resolution, colour uniformity, fabric integrity and finish — checked before pressing and after.
